How often should I see a dentist?

By Dr Jane Mitchell · AHPRA Reg. DEN0001234567 · 2 May 2026 · 4 min read

A woman brushing her teeth at home

It’s one of the most common questions we hear, and the honest answer is: it depends. For many people, a check-up and clean every six months works well. For others — depending on their gum health, history and habits — more or less frequent visits make sense.

Regular check-ups aren’t just about cleaning. They’re a chance to spot small issues early, while they’re simpler and more comfortable to look after. We’ll always recommend an interval based on your individual needs, and we’re happy to explain why.

If it’s been a while since your last visit, there’s no judgement here. Just give us a call and we’ll help you get back on track at a pace that feels comfortable.
